When your arms are swinging at your sides for long periods of time, it causes the blood to pool in your fingers--one of the reasons you should avoid wearing rings during long walks.

 

To help prevent this problem, keep your arms bent at 90-degree angles (this will also help you to walk faster), and at least once every half hour (or as soon as you notice any swelling) reach your left arm to the sky and wiggle your fingers for a few seconds while you tuck your right elbow to your side, bending it to touch your fingers to your right shoulder.

 

Repeat with the right arm. Do 5 to 10 times with each arm when needed.
