As beauty editors, we get bombarded with a ton of new products every day (we know—tough life).Reviewed is a new series where we report on some of the best products we’ve tried. Whether it’s a drugstore lipstick that lasted all day or a hand cream that saved us this winter, you’ll find all of our favourites in this column. Enjoy!

I like think that in a past life, I was a perfumer, brewing complicated scents and gathering exotic notes like blue lotus flower from the far corners of the world for my vast fragrance library. Alas, I have to settle for being a beauty editor IRL and just obsessively smelling every fragrance that comes my way (poor me). By now, I’ve learned it’s hard to have a signature scent when you have my job—I’m like one of those jerk-y guys who doesn’t want to settle down because he has too many options. ButSarah Horowitz’s() set speaks to my commitment-phobe, fragrance-loving soul. The four-piece collection is meant to be layered, worn alone, or even added to a fragrance you already love—in other words, it givesyouthe power to play perfumer.

The Perfect Veil, the first step of the mixing kit, is a soft, musky base, and meant to be worn layered under the other three scents, which come in rollerball form. When I met with Horowitz, she said to treat Perfect Veil like you would a slip dress—something light and barely-there that layers under anything, but can also be worn alone. The other three scents are meant for mixing, which is where the fun begins. Scents of Awakening is a blend of tropical fruits, and smells like crisp citrus and just a hint of musk; Scents of Harmony is a heady, blooming floral with lily and gardenia; and Scents of Passion is your sultry going-out scent, consisting of warm amber, sandalwood, patchouli, and just a touch of sweet vanilla. It’s the equivalent of a leather jacket and girly dress in scent form, and I’m obsessed. I’ve been wearing Scents of Harmony during the daytime, and layering with Scents of Passion at night; the two came with me on a recent trip to Europe, and I mixed and matched the two to my heart’s content. It doesn’t hurt that the fragrances themselves smell just as good worn alone as they do layered with other perfumes—my favourite combination of late has been mixing Scents of Harmony with my Elizabeth & James Nirvana Black Rollerball (). So. Good.

If you’re a perfume aficionado or just like having options, you’ll love this smart little set. At it’s not quite wallet friendly, but less than a bottle of most luxury perfumes. So, maybe give trying to find “the One” a break and have a little fun?

Do you have a signature scent? What’s your favourite fragrance mixing combination? Sound off below!
